The Right Size. To be functional, an ottomans height should precisely match the height of the sofa or chair that you will occupy while using it. Ottomans should be chosen in consideration of those who will most use them. For some, a light ottoman will provide all the support needed. For others, a larger, wider piece is a better choice.
Ottomans manufactured today are square, rectangular, or round. Square and rectangular configurations are the most popular. Straight edged ottomans come in four basic configurations. The smallest one has a square shape, and it is commonly called Cube Ottoman. The next one consists of two cube ottomans joined together. The third one has three cube ottomans joined together. It is commonly called a Bench Ottoman. The largest one is square-shaped, and it consists of four cube ottomans. In the vast majority of ottomans, each cube has a separate cushion, and a separate storage area. In the models with trays, each cushion can be turned over to use as individual trays.
Storage ottomans are just that: they are built for storage. The padded top is usually hinged and can open up to reveal an open space in heart of the ottoman in which people generally store blankets for use with the easy chair and ottoman. Many people use ottomans as tables and if they have a flat, level surface, so much the better. They can be used as coffee tables or benches.
