An ottoman traditionally is a wooden box with cushioning on top. These boxes are used to rest your feet when you are relaxing. Ottomans were very popular in the Ottoman Empire and this is where it gets its name from. Normally ottomans are sold as part of a set and are paired with an armchair or glider. They are designed to match the chair or glider that they are paired with. In most homes they can be found in the living room and are used solely to put up ones feet. Designers are now coming up with innovative ways to use this piece of furniture and there are number of different uses that ottomans can be used for.
An ottoman is a wooden box that has cushioning on top. This box can be used for storage. Instead of leaving books, CDs and games piled up around the living area you can neatly put them away inside your ottoman. A lot of ottomans now come with easy lift lids and with built-in organization centers that makes storing things in the base of the ottoman easy and convenient. Ottomans are a great way to get that extra storage space and you can put away the things that you are not using in your living area. Ottomans can also be used for extra seating. An ottoman does not have a back or arms but they are still very comfortable to sit on.
Let It Be Leather. Just as a coffee table is likely to serve as a footstool at some point, the ottoman invariably serves as a makeshift coffee table, too. As a resting place for legs and feet, an ottoman needs to be easy to clean and durable. For its durability and functionality, ottoman leather has almost become synonymous with ottoman furniture. Leather bears up well under heavy use, and its patina only improves with age. Ottoman leather suits both contemporary and traditionally decorated rooms, too, adding texture, rich color and style.
Consider what you will be using your ottoman for before you decide where to buy it from as well as what type of ottoman you want. If your household is particularly chaotic, filled with pets and kids for example, you may wish to buy an ottoman that is upholstered in materials which are easy to clean. You can also find ottomans that come with storage space for you to store items in and help keep the place tidy. Ottomans also can be used as coffee tables, although these are usually slightly bigger and upholstered in sturdy leather for durability. If you are just after a good old fashioned ottoman to put your feet up on then you simply need to decide what colour scheme and materials will best suit your living room.
